Every year, tons of electronic waste end up in landfills — even though most can be recycled or reused. At Circuit Cycle, a non-profit organization, we’re on a mission to make e-waste recycling simple, accessible, and meaningful for our community. This project is made possible through the Youth Climate Action Fund of the City of West Palm Beach, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, and our work empowers residents to take action for a cleaner planet. E-waste, also known as electronic waste, refers to discarded electronic devices such as old computers, phones, TVs, and batteries. When these electronics are not properly disposed of, they can release harmful chemicals like lead, mercury, and cadmium into the environment. These toxic substances can contaminate soil, water, and air, posing serious risks to human health, wildlife, and ecosystems. This issue is particularly pressing in Florida, where our drinking water is sourced from groundwater. Proper recycling and disposal through initiatives by non-profit organizations are crucial to preventing these environmental and health hazards and ensuring a responsible circuit cycle for electronic devices.
